Our Mission at Trinity

In August 2002 Trinity Lutheran Congregation updated its mission statement: words that continue to drive our transformation as the Body of Christ in our community:

We witness to the healing, loving and sustaining presence of God in the midst of life, specifically as a Lutheran Community of Christian faith based in Word and Sacrament.

We acknowledge the great spiritual and cultural diversity of the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood and respect, support and affirm the dignity of all people and their specific faiths and cultural frameworks.

We believe that, as an important part of the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood, our mission is to do as Jesus did through word and deed: help feed the hungry, heal the broken, help bear their burdens, thereby being a Christian presence and living out the Word in our lives.

We invite everyone in the neighborhood to learn more about our Christian faith through our examples as we live out our faith and witness to our faith in words as well as in deeds.

Evangelical Lutheran Church In America: Living In God’s Amazing Grace

Trinity is a church — a church that is so old and so new. Trinity is so old it’s the oldest institution on the West Bank — it was founded in 1868, more than 140 years ago. Trinity is so new that it shares ministry with Fairview University Hospital, Augsburg College, and its Muslim neighbors. Trinity is so old it was begun by Norwegian immigrants and so new it is now a multicultural faith community. And Trinity is a church that is so different that when it lost its building to the construction of Interstate 94, its people marched into ministry throughout the neighborhood, becoming a church without walls.
