Serving the Cedar-Riverside Community with Free Tutoring

Back to Trinity website >

Who Can Tutor? Area Students and Community Members.

Tutors are generally local college students. Our tutors come from a variety of places, including Augsburg College, the University of Minnesota, the local community and Trinity’s congregation.

What Are the Expectations? Tutor Once Per Week.

Tutors assist students with all subjects and levels. Tutors are expected to work together with coordinator and other tutors to use their skills most effectively in subject areas that they feel comfortable.

Safe Place generally asks that tutors commit to attend at least one tutoring session per week for a semester. The fall semester occurs between September and December, while the spring semester occurs between January and June. The tutoring sessions are 2.5 hours long and occur Monday through Friday between 3:00 pm and 5:30 pm. Tutoring with Safe Place is flexible and tutors should work together with the Safe Place Coordinator to set up a clear schedule.

What Are the Benefits? Assist the Community and Gain Valuable Experience.

Safe Place tutors receive many benefits:
• A chance to get involved in the Cedar-Riverside community and help area students
• An opportunity to practice communication skills
• The experience of working in a diverse setting
• A meaningful experience to share during interviews
